Software Freedom Day

Did you know that Saturday, September 20, is Software Freedom Day (SFD)?

From the SFD website:

Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a worldwide celebration of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Our goal in this celebration is to educate the worldwide public about of the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at home, and in business -- in short, everywhere! The non-profit company Software Freedom International coordinates SFD at a global level, providing support, giveaways and a point of collaboration, but volunteer teams around the world organize the local SFD events to impact their own communities.

The teams page shows the location and details for events across the globe. Check to see if anything is happening in your city, and if so, consider dropping by to show your support for open source and to meet other open source users in your area. If not, there is still time to arrange an event in your city, so start brainstorming with your local user group!

Carleton University will be hosting the Ottawa team in the Tory atrium. We'd love to see people from the many user groups in Ottawa as those who participated last year had a great time networking with each other and introducing students to open source. I'll be there and hope to see some OSBR readers drop by.

Multimedia Section Added

This morning I added a Multimedia section to the OSBR website. Don't worry, you can still find the audio and video presentations in the table of contents of applicable issues. Now it is easier to find all of the available audio and video in one place.

Thanks to the talented folks at Videotelephony, we'll soon have more multimedia resources, including interviews with past and upcoming authors and guest editors. If you would like to arrange an interview either in person or by telephone, contact the Editor.
